Is that even possible? You bet it is with the town of Niwot. Located just 7 miles (basically just ten minutes) away from the city of Boulder, Niwot has always been a perfect place for those who want to escape the big city lights for a day, a week or even for the rest of their lives.

A History of Niwot

Established back in 1875, the town of Niwot was named after an Arapaho Indian Leader - Chief Niwot. The Arapahos inhabited the surrounding areas when the settlers came, and it has been named as such ever since. The Colorado Central Railroad, which was just extended then, played a huge role in the economic boost of Niwot during tat time. Behind the railroad depot stood the first etsablishments in town - some general stores, a feedmill and a blacksmith shop. The neighborhood homes were then erected on the east side of the railroad tracks.

It was during the beginning of the 20th century when the business center of Niwot was moved to the Second Avenue. The Second Avenue still stands today, and the buildings and old structures that remain now comrpice the Niwot Historic District.
