Pinecliffe Colorado Real Estate
Pinecliffe, ColoradoHigh up in the Arapaho Forest region, just a little closer to Heaven than most people get in this life, you can breathe in the fresh, sweet air of Pinecliffe. This is a little town known mostly as a U.S. post office stop, and it rests in the mountains about 8,000 feet above sea level. It was originally, aptly known as Cliff, Colorado; around 1910 the "Pine" was added, and at some point, somebody stuck the "e" on the end. This town actually got its start as a railroad stop around 1870; people took the train to reach the mining camps, for gold and other ore, in places like Nederland, Central City, and Black Hawk. When you're in Pinecliffe, you're deep into Rocky Mountain territory, not far from the Continental Divide, but still just about an hour away from Denver. This is one of those places that are truly far from the madding crowd. The people you'll meet here come for the hiking or four-wheeling, and simply to immerse themselves in nature. Others love the wintertime offerings of snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, or cross country events. This is also a great place for kayaking. Nederland is less than ten miles away, and it's a major stop for this quiet area steeped richly in Indian culture. You'll find music and art festivals scheduled throughout the year. Just twenty miles away, in the towns of Black Hawk and Central City, gambling casinos and gaming tables beckon. You have your choice of over 22 venues! This is also the site of what was once known as Wink's Lodge, a resort popular from the Thirties through the Fifties among African American celebrities. It began as a camp for young ladies of prominent African American families during the daring era of the roaring Twenties; later on, it was attended by people like Lena Horne and Duke Ellington. You can tour it by appointment; it's being remodeled for a possible future reopening. Children attend the Fairview Schools in the Boulder Valley School District. The high school is known for its advanced academic program that draws students from other areas. Classes are small and instruction is focused. Real estate varies from rustic structures available for $50,000 all the way up to $500,000. You'll rarely find more than a half dozen homes for sale at any given time. If quiet mountain life is in your blood, you can live here and commute to Denver, and Boulder is just a half hour away. You've got to come and see this place to believe it! |
